If you’re unfamiliar with Texas A&M Aggie culture, our traditions are very important to us (and that’s probably an understatement). The Aggie culture, especially on game days, is centered around yells and songs that are unique and special to A&M beyond just a school song. We have four yell leaders (not cheerleaders) that lead the crowds at games in yells and songs during each game to hype the crowd up. I decided for my non-Aggie friends, potential Aggies, and friends and family of Aggies to write up a little about our traditions, values, and yells. Here, I’ll talk about the traditional yells and school songs you’ll probably hear during an Aggie game! Texas Aggie yells are learned by students at Fish Camp their freshman year, and the yells are “practiced” at Midnight Yell Practice the night before each home football game. Yells are started in the stands when the Yell Leaders perform a hand motion to the student section and students in the front rows will “pass it back Ags” so all the students know what the yell is. Here are some of the most famous Aggie yells and songs I’ve put together with the help of Texas A&M’s Association of Former Students:
